Who we are
Every year Faubourg Studio dancers represent the school at international ballet competitions such as Youth America Grand Prix, Prix De Lausanne, Varna International Ballet Competition, World Ballet Competition, etc. With its consistently high-level presentation, Faubourg Theatre has developed a reputation of an impeccable training facility on an international scale.
As a result in 2011, the school was awarded “School of the Year” at the YAGP international finals in New York.
Faubourg Theatre's artistic director, Watmora Casey, has been recognized as “Teacher of the Year”, multiple years in a row and many of his students have gone on to dance in renowned international dance companies including Alvin Ailey, The Royal Danish Ballet, and Northern Ballet in England.
Each year Faubourg dancers receive scholarships to well renowned schools worldwide and have gone on to training and dancing with such companies as American Ballet Theatre, Miami Ballet, Alvin Ailey, John Cranko of Stuttgart Ballet, Princess Grace Academy of Monaco, National Ballet of Canada, Houston Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Oklahoma Ballet, Ballet West, Dutch National Opera and Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet to name a few.
Faubourg Theatre works towards raising awareness of the needs of children of all layers of society. The school is dedicated to developing strong and resilient individuals by giving physical and mental tools to its dancers, as well as the less fortunate children of the community. It gives a chance to all children to express themselves through art and with positive encouragement unlocks their potential, while holding them accountable for their work and achievements. Faubourg Theatre is committed to serving the community by making a small difference in each child’s life, serving their needs for food, water, education, and art.
Our vision is to strengthen our children, families, and community through the arts and education.
Faubourg Theatre is committed to producing world-class artists by developing each student’s abilities and potential to the fullest. We believe that no matter what the body type or inherent ability, each dancer through hard work, dedication, God’s grace, and the individual attention of caring and well-trained teachers, can build greatness within themselves.
The sense of achievement and satisfaction that come from this self-improvement brings greater self-respect and responsibility. It gives young people at their most unsure times, the confidence and self-esteem they so desperately need, so that they may face the uncertain world of today.
We believe Art can make a difference in each individual’s heart and therefore the community. Faubourg Theatre is dedicated to making the Art of Dance transcendent to areas beyond itself and reaching out to everyone.
Faubourg Theatre uses the performing arts as a medium to engage and empower young people and families, bridging cultures and communities.
Here we believe:
~Children express themselves through the arts
~The arts promote strength, resilience, and confidence
~In encouragement, disciplined practice and personal accountability
Faubourg Theatre is a nonprofit organization where dancers are encouraged to explore various facets of the dance world, discover themselves in new ways and reflect on their experiences.
Faubourg Theatre seeks and surfaces each dancer’s individual best while recognizing ultimate strength and beauty in weaving the talents of each into one. The dancer’s body, mind and spirit are challenged each day.
Children express themselves through the arts
The arts promote strength, resilience, and confidence
In encouragement, disciplined practice and personal accountability
What we do
Faubourg Theatre teaches, prepares and mentors students in various dance repertoire, including classical ballet. The Theatre individualizes dance instruction and offers performance and competition preparation. Serving the community, The Theatre performs at park districts and village events, assisted living homes and schools throughout the suburbs and the Chicagoland area.
Faubourg Theatre also partners with the Keeneyville School District #20 facilitating and instructing after-school and during summer time; integrating the arts and literacy to engage students who typically would not be enrolled in an after school or summer program. Faubourg Theatre dancers participate as mentors and leaders with students at the local schools. The Theatre’s six-week Literacy through the Arts Program is a collaboration with District #20 teachers and administrators to improve reading comprehension and develop students’ academic, social and emotional awareness through the arts.
“Seeing the students involved in the Literacy through the Arts program and the connection between the skills they’re learning there and how well they’re doing class, is powerful.”
Dr. Michael Connolly,
Superintendent, Keeneyville School District #20
